..words can't bring me down...no no no...Thanks Christina (Aguillera). The beauty industry often stirs the pot of 'if only's'. If only I were thinner, smaller, bigger, taller, shorter, etc. If only I looked like a super
model. If only I were blonde, brunette, red-headed, green-eyed. It is an industry that thwarts unfulfilled and, in most cases, unattainable desires to be, well, perfect.
Wanting to differentiate itself from the rest of the pack, Dove got active. They created a new kind of body image campaign to support us normal folks who have lopsided faces, bulbous noses, short necks, flabby arms, less than athletic legs. In short, they chose to speak to, and for, 99.99999999% of the population.
The following video may be slightly graphic (if you're under thirteen, get your mom or dad's approval first). But it shows what we women do to ourselves to attain a level of 'beauty' defined by those who profit most from our insecurities.
Share this with your daughters. Tell them they are beautiful. And remember, you are beautiful, too, no matter what they say. Words...and images, can't bring us down. No no no!
