Some see the coming of Fall as a time of things ending. But with every ending comes a new beginning. Although I fear the pending darkness that settles upon the European terrain for months on end, I also welcome its healing embrace in some ways. Dormancy, I have learned, is not all that bad.
Today was another day of connections as I greeted two new friends from South Africa. They had spent three weeks in both Las Vegas, then Cologne, representing their company at various trade fairs. Rather exhausted and looking for diversion, they arrived the train station this morning at shortly after my train had arrived in Munich. We spent an entire day together, taking in what sites we could from underneath our umbrellas, and enjoyed each other's company, laughter and conversation.
As we departed this evening, it felt as if something had ended, as if a part of my soul was leaving, and yet I know they will return to their country and their families in time for Spring. Renewal for them, hibernation for me. At the very same time, we ignited each other's souls in a banquet of divine connection. There is no end, just the infinity of the ages cycling ever forward.
