While the media battle out who's right and who's wrong in the battle of the Moms, let us reflect on one fact: we all work whether we get paid on Friday or not. The skills we acquire whilst raising our brood are both marketable and indispensible. For some Friday fun, we'll list them here.
Parents:
10. know how to delegate. Shouting commands from our parental post, we get dinner on the table, kid hands washed, roaming pets beyond food range, homework assignments completed and toys littered across the house in their proper places (occasionally).
9. understand how to follow the rules. When schools send home hand-outs, we execute their orders with rarely a grunt (including exact change, which is almost always required).
8. resemble circus jugglars who created the meaning of multitask.
7. are more flexible than Nadia Comenici. (You need me lucid at 2 am? I'll be there.)
6. have compassion for our fellow parent workers when they look drawn and marrow-deep tired.
5. know how to set borders (I'monthephoneandifyouinterruptemeonemoretime...).
4. make any accounting department dizzy with envy for having mastered New Math (Little Johnny, can you explain number 10 to me again?)
3. never ever complain when you're too demanding. Most likely, there's someone even more demanding waiting at home.
2. are willing to do even the most remedial tasks.
The number one reason parents make great workers?
We'll work for food (you've cooked).
