This past week was transformational. Offline and in life, I experienced magic wherever I went. New York City has that effect on me.
My motivation for attending James Ray's Harmonic Wealth Weekend was to bond with my colleagues, whom I had only ever 'met' on the phone and via email. We've been working hard on our clients' campaigns, and I view the work as more than just media placements. It's about transforming the world through positive news. And we've got plenty of that.
It was intended as a business trip. James Ray is, after all, one of our clients. The moment I stepped on the plane, I knew I was headed for a divine experience.
"I want to sit next to someone uplifting," I declared as I settled into my seat for the 8 1/2 hour flight. The woman who sat next to me looked very familiar, but I didn't want to stare. At first, I thought she might be a sports newscaster. When I choked on a pretzel, she smiled and said, "You've got that cough too, huh?" I looked her square in the eye and said, "Linda?!" She's someone I know from a business club in Munich. We chat off and on for the rest of the flight.
I got to my hotel in record time, even though it was in New Jersey. My associate was on the phone, negotiating an interview for James on the CBS Early Morning show for the next day. We hugged in between phone calls, then I fell into bed. The next morning, we watched our client's grinning mug on the screen.
The day zipped by as I met with a few other colleagues in the City. There I met one of our filmmaker clients and saw Spike Lee ahead of me in line at Starbucks. Scarlett Johannsen walked by me as she chat on her cell phone. After our brush with fame (time and again), we went to Ground Zero where I silently promised to make a difference with my books. We took the Staten Island ferry just to view the Statue of Liberty, then raced back to the Downtown Hilton to catch our shuttle back to New Jersey.
James' seminar lasted two days. He was highly entertaining, and the seminar itself was very well orchestrated. Complete with uplifting music, dancing, and physical activity, the days raced by. My personal takeaway from the weekend:
- Mediocrity will always attack greatness. Get used to it.
- What's stopping you on your spiritual path? (Mine was coffee. I gave it up. Literally.)
- Meditation will keep you in touch with your higher consciousness. I need that connection to achieve what I want. Whatever blocks that connection between the conscious mind and the unconscious mind needs 'degunking' for clear communication. I once wrote an essay, "What Color is Your Lamp?" James' image of the Universe as our genie runs parallel to my idea of our internal lamp. Tend to it. Heal it. And it will glow in and through you.
- I am worth it!
We broke a board with our bare hands. It was amazing. You should have felt the power in the room. 350 people did it. It was such a moving experience as I watched people struggle, then break through. It was even more moving than doing it myself.
One thing for me is very clear -- receiving an Academy Award is great. Helping someone else get one is even better. That's what my life is about. I'm clear about that now.
